The same guitar is already an important weight that sometimes makes it difficult to move. The lighter the case, the better, although most of the time the weight of the case goes hand in hand with the dimensions and weight of the instrument. This characteristic also depends on the physical form of each.
There are universal covers that adapt to the shape of almost any type of guitar. Others instead have the specific silhouette for an electric guitar, Spanish, acoustic,… If you do not want to play it or your guitar has a very peculiar shape, you should choose one that is exclusive for that type.
There are covers of different materials. This characteristic determines the aesthetic. There are brighter materials or less. Some covers can combine different materials creating different effects.
But it is also important that you look at whether it is a resistant, flexible, waterproof or washable material.
Design and color
As for colors, there is not much to choose from. The majority are black or gray that as much include some different detail at the seams. In a smaller percentage, you can find some blue or with more alternative patterned designs.
Among the possibilities offered by the market of covers, some only cover the part of the box leaving the mast exposed. Others, however, also have additional protection for this area. It is always preferable to choose one that covers the entire guitar to avoid snagging or possible damage.
Some covers are composed solely of a fabric and others that include inner padding that makes them more padded.
They should have extra cushioning to protect the guitar from shocks and make transportation more comfortable.
Straps or handles
And, speaking of transport, if the case includes straps or handles it also favors that you can take the guitar to any place more easily. Likewise, it is also advisable that you take notice of the material of these elements. It is better to include small pads to avoid discomfort in the shoulders or palms.
How is the zipper? You have to look where it is located and also its length. If the opening is too short, it may be more difficult to remove the guitar from the case. The thickness and resistance of the zipper are also important, if it is narrow, it may be damaged or torn off beforehand by the weight of the guitar.
Double seams make the case more resistant, especially if the guitar is very heavy or if we transport it very frequently.
Some cases have an outer bag that comes in handy to put scores, song lyrics, manuals or any other materials necessary for our interpretation.
The guitar covers have very different prices. The range is really wide, from around € 10 that can cost some to € 3,000 of the most sophisticated.
